
Gunmen abduct UTME candidates and travellers in Benue
Several passengers, including candidates for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, were abducted by gunmen along the Makurdi–Otukpo Road in Benue State. The victims were travelling in a Benue Links bus when the attack occurred. According to officials, most of the abducted passengers were young people heading to Otukpo for the JAMB exam. Security forces have been deployed to rescue the victims.
What happened
- Gunmen attacked a Benue Links bus carrying about 18 passengers from Makurdi to Otukpo, abducting most occupants.
- The attack took place near Otukpo around 8pm, with two people, including the driver, managing to escape.
- Ifeanyi Emenari, the Commissioner of Police, confirmed that 14 passengers were kidnapped and said he is leading the rescue operation.
- Maxwell Ogiri, Chairman of Otukpo Local Government Area, stated that security operatives have been deployed to the area.
- The victims were mainly young men and women travelling to Otukpo to sit for the JAMB examination.
