
Police arrest suspects after traffic officer abduction in Ondo
Three suspects have been arrested by the Ondo State Police Command for various traffic-related offences, including the abduction of a traffic officer. According to the police, the incidents occurred in Akure and its environs, involving individuals who disobeyed traffic rules and assaulted officers. DSP Abayomi Jimoh and Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal both commented on the swift police response and the importance of enforcing traffic laws. The suspects have been charged in court as investigations continue.
What happened
- The first incident took place on April 3, 2026, when Olopade Abraham and Emmanuel Taiwo allegedly disobeyed traffic lights and fled with a Senior Traffic Warden, Kehinde Oliniju, in their vehicle.
- Police patrol from Fanibi Division intercepted the vehicle at Winners Chapel Junction along Ondo Road and rescued the officer.
- In a separate case on April 5 at about 9:30 p.m., Mrs Adeyanju Tolutope and her husband allegedly resisted arrest and assaulted a police officer at the Oba-Ile axis.
- Mrs Adeyanju Tolutope was arrested and has made useful statements, while her husband remains at large.
- All suspects connected to these incidents have been charged in court, and the police reiterated their zero tolerance for traffic violations and assaults on officers.
