Federal Government opens 15km section of Enugu–Onitsha highway
The Federal Government has opened a 15-kilometre stretch of the Enugu–Onitsha highway to ease traffic for South-East residents during the Easter celebrations. David Umahi, Minister of Works, announced the move while inspecting the project and emphasized the government’s commitment to improving road infrastructure. The project aims to provide immediate relief to commuters and ensure long-term durability. Bola Tinubu’s administration has accelerated work on the highway and other key infrastructure projects in the region.

- David Umahi confirmed the opening of the 15km 9th Mile–Abakpa section as a “special intervention” for the Easter period.
- The section is about 97 per cent completed, with solar-powered lights set to be installed across the stretch.
- The project was initially delayed for about eight years but was accelerated after Bola Tinubu ordered a redesign and faster execution.
- The total reconstruction of the Enugu–Onitsha road is now valued at over ₦350 billion, with reinforced concrete used for improved durability.
- Other major infrastructure projects in the South-East, including expressways, flyovers, and bridge upgrades, are also ongoing under the current administration.
