Efcc detains two for alleged Kwara job scam and n993m forex fraud
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended two individuals over an alleged job scam in Kwara State. The suspects, Bolaji Kazeem Akinwunmi and Kemisola Mary Akinbo, reportedly defrauded job seekers of nearly N3 million by promising employment opportunities. In a related case, the EFCC also arrested Kofoworola Kolawole for alleged involvement in a massive forex fraud. The commission highlighted a rise in sophisticated scams targeting both individuals and financial institutions.
What happened
- The EFCC arrested Bolaji Kazeem Akinwunmi and his alleged accomplice, Kemisola Mary Akinbo, for allegedly defrauding applicants of N2,921,700 through a fake job scheme.
- Akinwunmi allegedly impersonated officials of the Nigeria Customs Service and Nigeria Immigration Service to convince victims of his access to employment slots.
- The EFCC also detained Kofoworola Kolawole, accused of conspiring with others to fraudulently obtain N993,247,796.70 under the pretext of a foreign exchange transaction.
- The funds in the forex case were reportedly received on November 25, 2025, and were meant to be converted and remitted as the dollar equivalent of $675,219.44 but were diverted.
- The EFCC noted that these cases reflect a growing trend of scams targeting vulnerable job seekers and financial institutions in Nigeria.
