NDLEA finds cocaine hidden in fish and arrests suspects in Lagos
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have intercepted a large consignment of cocaine concealed in imported dry stock fish, also known as “Okporoko.” The operation led to the arrest of Akputa Ejike, a suspected kingpin, and the recovery of three jumbo bags containing 237 wraps of cocaine. The NDLEA also made several other drug-related arrests and seizures in Lagos, Ekiti, Ondo, Benue, Edo, and Taraba states. Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.) commended the agency’s officers for their efforts in curbing drug trafficking.
What happened
- The NDLEA seized cocaine hidden in the heads of imported dry stock fish and arrested Akputa Ejike in the Ojo area of Lagos on March 19, 2026.
- Two illicit consignments bound for the UK were intercepted at a courier company in Lagos on March 25, containing methamphetamine and ampoules of Morphine Sulphate and Fentanyl.
- On March 26, Omolade Abigail Jolayemi and Sarah Zainab Agbabiaka were arrested in Yaba, Lagos, with 135 blocks of Ghana Loud cannabis, while Anayo Ohabiro was arrested in Surulere with 78 blocks.
- In Ekiti, Oke Samuel was arrested on March 26 with skunk and methamphetamine, and a large seizure was made from Enuwa Kehinde Kingsley in Ondo State the same day.
- Additional seizures and arrests occurred in Benue on March 24 and in Taraba on March 24, with significant quantities of skunk and codeine-based syrup recovered.
