Fire destroys timber market in Calabar
A devastating fire broke out at a timber market in Calabar, Cross River State, causing the loss of goods worth millions of naira. ASP Sunday Eitokpah confirmed that the incident happened around 8:30 pm on Friday and was extinguished at about 1:55 am on 28th March, 2026. The fire was reportedly started by a spark from the public power supply within the market. Thanks to the efforts of the police and fire services, the blaze was contained and did not spread to the nearby Police Barracks.
