Northern states boost cooperation to fight insecurity
Security officials and peacebuilding actors from Benue, Kaduna, Katsina, and Plateau states have agreed to strengthen collaboration against insecurity. The commitment was made during a high-level consultative dialogue in Jos, Plateau State. The event brought together various stakeholders to share experiences and develop coordinated strategies for addressing security challenges. Amina Wali, Dr Ukoha Ukiwo, Chris Ngwodo, and Julie Sanda were among those who highlighted the importance of local and national cooperation.
What we know
- The consultative dialogue was convened on March 17, 2026, by the Office for Strategic Preparedness and Resilience in partnership with the UK-funded Strengthening Peace and Resilience in Nigeria Programme and the Plateau State Peacebuilding Agency.
- Since 2025, OSPRE’s SPARCS programme has trained over 300 participants in early warning and response mechanisms across the North-West and North-Central regions.
- Dr Ukoha Ukiwo emphasized the need for local capacity building and peer learning platforms to prevent conflict escalation.
- Chris Ngwodo stressed that effective security requires coordinated efforts between different levels of government.
- A peer learning visit to Operation Rainbow’s facility in Plateau State allowed participants to observe community-based security coordination and rapid response strategies.
