NDLEA intercepts drugs hidden in cartons and creams at Lagos airport
Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have intercepted multiple consignments of illicit drugs concealed in various items at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport and a courier firm in Lagos. The agency disrupted attempts by trafficking syndicates to smuggle drugs to destinations such as Italy and New Zealand. Femi Babafemi, the agency’s spokesman, detailed the seizures and arrests, including suspects attempting to board international flights. Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (retd.) praised the officers for their efforts and encouraged continued vigilance.
What happened
- Friday Ehianuka, 37, was arrested on March 20 at the Lagos airport with 2,698 pills of tramadol concealed in body cream containers while trying to board a flight to Rome.
- On March 18, Christian Agbonhese, 38, was intercepted with 28,470 opioid pills hidden in winter jackets before boarding a flight to Milan.
- NDLEA officers seized cannabis and methamphetamine concealed in cartons at a Lagos courier firm, with parcels destined for New Zealand and shipped from the United States.
- Additional arrests and seizures were made in Kano, Lagos, Edo, the Federal Capital Territory, Oyo, Kaduna, Taraba, and Adamawa, involving large quantities of tramadol, codeine syrup, and skunk.
- The agency intensified its War Against Drug Abuse campaigns nationwide, targeting schools, worship centres, and communities.
