Two killed as gas explosion destroys warehouses in Lagos
A gas explosion in the Ajah area of Lagos has resulted in the deaths of two people and the destruction of multiple properties. The incident happened after a collision between a gas tanker and a tipper truck along the Lekki-Epe Expressway. Officials from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service responded promptly and were able to extinguish the fire. The situation has since been brought under control, with efforts ongoing to clear the scene.
What happened
- The explosion occurred after a speeding tipper truck crashed into a stationary gas tanker at Tera Ahmed bus stop, Sangotedo.
- The fire spread to three warehouses and 10 roadside shops, including a gym and generator house.
- Two male adults, identified as the tipper driver and his assistant, died in the incident, while the gas truck driver escaped unhurt.
- Firefighters from Lekki Phase II, Oniru, and Epe II stations responded and prevented the fire from reaching a nearby petrol station and other properties.
- Several vehicles, including three Sienna buses, a Toyota Corolla, and a forklift, were recovered from the affected area.
