Lagos sees 173 emergency cases in January and February
Lagos State Emergency Management Agency has reported a total of 173 emergency incidents between January and February 2026. The agency’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, shared details of the emergencies, highlighting the most common types and affected areas. Road traffic accidents were the leading cause, with several local government areas experiencing higher incident rates. Oke-Osanyintolu emphasized the agency’s ongoing commitment to improving emergency response and public safety.
What happened
- Lagos State Emergency Management Agency recorded 173 emergencies between January and February 2026.
- Road traffic accidents were the most frequent, with 56 cases, including 53 vehicle crashes and three vehicle fires.
- Other incidents included 35 involving trucks and tankers, 47 fire outbreaks, two building collapses, and one tanker spillage.
- Ikeja had the highest number of incidents with 31, followed by Kosofe and Alimosho.
- The agency reported no incidents in Badagry and reaffirmed its commitment to disaster preparedness and safety awareness.
