Police arrest man suspected of planning Ebonyi monarch’s abduction, killing
The Ebonyi State Police Command has apprehended Nwazunku Stephen, believed to be the mastermind behind the kidnapping and murder of Ezeogo Francis Igwe, the traditional ruler of Ndufu Alike Ikwo. The arrest followed ongoing investigations and intelligence-led operations by the police. Police recovered weapons and other items from the suspects’ hideout. The command says investigations are ongoing and all those involved will be brought to justice.
What happened
- Nwazunku Stephen was arrested by the Ebonyi State Police Command for allegedly masterminding the kidnap and murder of Ezeogo Francis Igwe.
- The monarch, Ezeogo Francis Igwe, was abducted last Sunday while on his way to church and was later killed after a ransom was demanded.
- Police had previously arrested nine other suspects, including the state publicity secretary of the All Progressives Congress.
- On 7th March 2026, police recovered weapons and other items from a hideout after one suspect led them there.
- On 8th March 2026, Nwazunku Stephen was arrested at his hideout in Ikwo and is assisting police with their investigation.
