NSCDC arrests 16 suspects for fake currency and illegal arms
The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has apprehended 16 individuals for various offences, including possession of counterfeit currency, illegal arms, and suspected kidnapping. The arrests were made during separate operations in Kano and Edo states by the Commandant General’s Special Intelligence Squad and the Kano State Command. Abbas Garkuwa was among those arrested, allegedly for printing fake US dollars and obtaining money under false pretence. The NSCDC also recovered firearms, tools for weapon production, and items linked to illegal mining.

- Abbas Garkuwa was arrested on February 27 at Kwankwasiya City, Zaria Road, Kumbotso LGA of Kano State with fake $600,000 and other items.
- Garkuwa allegedly issued fake US dollars amounting to $6,200 to a victim after collecting ₦9 million, and investigators found he received ₦5.5 million through his Zenith Bank account.
- Another suspect, Sulaiman Uba, was arrested in Kano with six locally fabricated rifles, reportedly received from Shuaibu Isiyaka under the direction of Suleiman Isiyaka.
- The criminal network reportedly operated under the guise of a private security outfit and moved arms from Yobe State to Kogi State between 2024 and 2025.
- Eight suspects were arrested at BUA Cement in Okpella, Edo State, for alleged criminal conspiracy, suspected kidnapping, illegal mining, and unlawful entry into restricted areas.
