NDLEA arrests multiple suspects in major drug operations
Three former and current public officials, including Sheleru Olalekan, have been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for alleged drug trafficking and related offenses. The NDLEA recovered large quantities of drugs, including skunk, tramadol, and codeine-based syrup, from various locations across Nigeria. Operations led to the arrest of suspects in Lagos, Abuja, Niger, Adamawa, Kano, Ogun, Delta, and Edo states. The agency also destroyed illegal drug farms and continued its anti-drug abuse campaigns in schools and communities.
What happened
- Sheleru Olalekan, a former councillor in Ibeju-Lekki, was arrested on March 2, 2026, with 40kg of skunk at his residence.
- On March 3, Emeka Hyginus Okwor was intercepted in Abuja with 1,000 pills of tapentadol hidden in baby diapers, and Mey Ali Muhamat was caught with 1.55kg of Colorado cannabis in Kogi State.
- NDLEA operatives in Niger State intercepted a bus with explosive device components on March 4, leading to the arrest of Osama Abdullahi.
- In Delta State, Joy Chukwuma and Eugene Felix were arrested on March 7 with skunk, codeine syrup, and pills.
- The NDLEA also destroyed over 1,900kg of skunk in Edo State and continued sensitisation campaigns in several states.
