Ekiti ex-commissioner leads initiative to empower boys against GBV
The Executive Director of Baobab for Women’s Human Rights, Bunmi Dipo-Salami, has launched a programme to promote positive masculinity among boys in Ekiti State. The initiative aims to empower young men to become allies in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV) and challenge harmful norms. Supported by the African Women’s Development Fund, the programme brought together students and teachers from various secondary schools. Bunmi Dipo-Salami emphasized the importance of nurturing empathetic and respectful men committed to gender equality.

- Bunmi Dipo-Salami, a former Ekiti commissioner, led a sensitisation workshop themed “Redefining masculinity: Boys as champions of change to end GBV in Nigeria.”
- The programme involved 100 male students and 20 male teachers from 10 secondary schools in Ekiti.
- The initiative is planned to be replicated across all 36 states of Nigeria.
- Resource person Ifeoluwa Idowu highlighted that the programme is part of BAOBAB’s broader efforts to advocate for women’s rights.
- Officials from the Ministry of Education and Education Trust Fund encouraged students to apply the lessons learned to help reduce violence.
