Police arrest four over cattle rustling and theft in Niger State
Four suspected cattle rustlers have been arrested by the Niger State Police Command, with 42 sheep recovered in separate operations. Wasiu Abiodun, the command’s Public Relations Officer, stated that the arrests were made after credible intelligence was received. The suspects reportedly confessed to the crime and identified other gang members. The police also intercepted a vehicle with suspected stolen goods and arrested another suspect in a separate motorcycle theft and attempted homicide case.
What happened
- Wasiu Abiodun announced the arrest of four suspected cattle rustlers and the recovery of 42 sheep.
- The suspects were apprehended on February 24, at about 6pm along Jebba-Mokwa road after being sighted in Raba forest via Mokwa.
- In another operation, a Ford vehicle loaded with 10 bags of zircon monazite was intercepted on February 23, 2026, at about 10pm at the City Gate area of Minna.
- A separate incident involved the arrest of a suspect for motorcycle theft and attempted homicide in Bida, which occurred on February 19, 2026, at about 7:30 pm.
- Efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects connected to the crimes.
