
Lagos announces 12-week traffic diversion on Lagos-Abeokuta road
The Lagos State Government has introduced a new traffic plan for the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway due to reconstruction works. The section between Super Bus-Stop and Ilepo Bus-Stop (inbound Lagos) will be affected. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Commissioner for Transportation, explained that the main carriageway will be closed and alternative routes provided. The government urges motorists to follow instructions for a smoother commute during the project.
What we know
- The reconstruction, managed by the Federal Ministry of Works, will run from March 7 to May 30, 2026, lasting 12 weeks.
- The main carriageway from Super Bus-Stop to Ilepo Bus-Stop (Lagos-bound) will be completely closed to traffic.
- Motorists from Abeokuta/Sango Tollgate heading to Lagos/Oshodi are advised to use the BRT Corridor, Ekoro Road, or Abule Egba Underbridge as alternative routes.
- Traffic on the Abeokuta-bound carriageway will remain open throughout the construction period.
- Oluwaseun Osiyemi stated that emergency tow vehicles will be stationed within the BRT corridor for breakdown management.
