Police announce movement restrictions for Kano by-elections
The Kano State Police Command has imposed movement restrictions in Kano Municipal and Ungogo Local Government Areas ahead of the upcoming State Assembly by-elections. The decision was made after a security meeting chaired by Zango Abdu and attended by key security officials. According to CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, only essential service vehicles and accredited election personnel will be exempt from the restrictions. The police have outlined strict guidelines to ensure a peaceful and credible election process on February 21, 2026.
What happened
- The movement of vehicles, tricycles, and motorcycles is restricted from 12:00 am to 6:00 pm on February 21, 2026 in the affected areas.
- Only vehicles on essential duties, such as ambulances, fire trucks, and accredited election officials, are exempt from the restrictions.
- Only eligible voters and officially identified agents by INEC will be allowed at polling units.
- Carrying weapons and wearing or displaying political party logos at polling units is strictly prohibited.
- State security outfits like Vigilante Groups, Neighbourhood Watch, Hisbah, and KAROTA will not be allowed at polling units.
