Edo government cracks down on cult-linked properties
The Edo State government has demolished a building in Amagba, Benin, linked to suspected cultists. The operation follows a series of cult-related killings in the state. Authorities have declared several suspects wanted and sealed properties connected to them. Governor Monday Okpebholo recently signed a law introducing severe penalties for cultism, including the death penalty.

- The Special Security Squad, led by the Principal Security Officer to the Governor, carried out the demolition and property sealing.
- Two suspected members of the Aye confraternity were arrested at the demolished property, while five others escaped.
- Four suspects, including Koko, Enas, and Sparol, have been declared wanted and are being pursued by authorities.
- The squad also sealed the last known residence of Etiosa Akhiombare Joshua (Baba Josh), a suspected Maphite Confraternity member, and involved Interpol after reports he relocated to Canada.
- In January 2025, Governor Monday Okpebholo signed the Secret Cult and Similar Activities (Prohibition) Law, 2025, introducing the death penalty and other severe punishments for cult-related crimes.
