Police detain suspect over Urum kidnapping and murder case
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested Ndibe Onyenwe, a 52-year-old man, for his alleged involvement in conspiracy, attempted kidnapping, grievous bullet injuries, and murder in Urum, Awka North. According to police spokesman SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspect was handed over by the Nigerian Army and reportedly confessed to being paid for the attack. Six people suffered serious bullet injuries during the ambush. Authorities are still searching for other suspects linked to the incident.
What happened

- The suspect allegedly conspired with Felix Godwin and others to sponsor armed men for a violent ambush in Urum.
- During the attack, six individuals sustained serious bullet injuries.
- Ndibe Onyenwe reportedly confessed that Felix Godwin paid ₦500,000 through an Access Bank account to hire gunmen and provided an additional ₦350,000 for cartridges.
- Another suspect, Ifeanyi Ekemezie, was arrested by the Rapid Response Squad in Isuaniocha, Awka North, in the early hours of February 17, 2026.
