Police arrest second suspect in Awka kidnapping case
The Anambra State Police Command has apprehended another suspect linked to a kidnapping, armed robbery, and cultism case in Awka. Tochukwu Ikenga, the Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest of Ifeanyi Ekemezie and detailed the ongoing investigation. The case involves a ransom payment and a violent attack on a victim in Amansea. Police are working to capture other suspects and recover stolen items.
What happened
- Ifeanyi Ekemezie, aged 32, was arrested by the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, in the early hours of February 17, 2026, at Isuaniocha, Awka North LGA.
- The arrest follows the earlier apprehension of Ndubuisi Anyakaku, aged 33, on February 13, 2026, whose bank account was allegedly used to collect a ₦1 million ransom.
- The case began with an incident on December 31, 2025, when a victim was attacked, robbed, and kidnapped at his Amansea residence.
- During the attack, the victim’s Toyota Highlander Jeep was stolen, ₦3 million was transferred from his bank account, and he was shot in the leg before being abandoned and later rescued.
- Ifeanyi Ekemezie reportedly confessed to being part of a three-man gang involved in kidnapping, car snatching, and cult-related killings in Awka.
