UN launches $1.6bn appeal to aid refugees from Sudan conflict
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and 123 partners have issued a $1.6 billion appeal to help millions displaced by the Sudan conflict. The plan targets support for refugees across seven neighboring countries, where essential services and resources are under severe strain. Mamadou Dian Balde, UNHCR’s Regional Director for Eastern and Southern Africa, emphasized the dire humanitarian situation and the urgent need for increased international support. Severe funding cuts have already forced reductions in critical services for refugees.
