NDLEA intercepts cocaine traffickers at Abuja and Kano airports
Three suspects, including a China-based Nigerian businessman and two Angolan nationals, were arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for attempting to smuggle cocaine through Nigerian airports. Ibeanu Chukwudulue was apprehended after ingesting drug pellets, while Mbandu Makiadi and Ngoma Wilson Fernando were caught in a similar manner. The agency also thwarted other drug export attempts in Lagos, Abuja, and Ibadan. The NDLEA has increased its efforts to combat drug trafficking across the country.
What happened
- Ibeanu Chukwudulue was arrested on Wednesday, February 4, 2026, at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport after ingesting 52 pellets of cocaine.
- On the same day, Mbandu Makiadi and Ngoma Wilson Fernando were intercepted at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, excreting 76 and 108 wraps of cocaine, respectively.
- In Lagos, NDLEA foiled an attempt by Olashupo Michael Oladimeji, a convicted trafficker, to export cocaine concealed in garri to London.
- NDLEA officers also intercepted a package containing Canadian Loud cannabis in Abuja on Thursday, 12th February and arrested the owner, Henry Onuma.
- In Ibadan, Oluwayemisi Bunmi was arrested on Wednesday, 11th February, with various drugs and cash recovered, while in Kwara, Kamilu Abdullahi was caught with 105,400 pills of tramadol on Thursday, February 12.
