
Police recover corpses and arrest mortician in Cross River

The Cross River State Police Command has found eight dried corpses at a mortuary in Isong Inyang Community, Akamkpa Local Government Area. ASP Eitokpah Sunday, the police spokesperson, confirmed that a suspect, Sunday Ben Reuben, has been arrested in connection with the discovery. The suspect is reportedly a mortician employed by a company in the area. The police have urged the public to remain calm as investigations continue.
What happened
- Eight dried corpses were discovered at a local embalmment hall in Isong Inyang Community along Calabar–Ikom Highway on 13th February 2026.
- Police received credible information about the corpses at about 11:56 a.m. on the same date and quickly mobilised to the scene.
- Sunday Ben Reuben, a mortician from Akwa Ibom State, was arrested at the facility.
- Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect works for Enghaut Company Mortuary in Akamkpa Local Government Area.
- The police have assured the public that a comprehensive investigation is ongoing and further updates will be provided.
