
Explosion disrupts activities at Bayelsa State Secretariat
A suspected bomb exploded at the Bayelsa State Secretariat Complex in Yenagoa, causing panic and a temporary halt to official duties. Security agencies responded quickly, and the area was cordoned off for safety. CP Iyamah of the Bayelsa State Police Command confirmed that there were no casualties or property damage. Authorities have assured the public that the situation is now under control.
What happened
- A suspected Improvised Explosive Device detonated at the Bayelsa State Secretariat Complex at about 6:00 am on 11th February 2026.
- CP Iyamah led the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit and other tactical teams to the scene, where another unexploded IED was found and rendered safe.
- No lives were lost and no property was damaged in the incident.
- Pentecost Elijah, a 60-year-old man from Otuan Community, was arrested at the scene and is being interrogated.
- The Bayelsa State Government ordered a four-hour closure of work as a precaution, affecting over 6,000 employees.
