
Sanitation worker injured by truck rescued by LASTMA in Lagos
A sanitation worker with the Lagos Waste Management Authority was rescued after being struck by a speeding truck along Offin Canal, inward Eko Bridge. The incident was confirmed by Mr Sola Giwa, Special Adviser to the Lagos State Governor on Transportation. The worker, identified as Mr Baba Ibeji, was carrying out his duties when the accident occurred. The truck driver fled the scene, but authorities are investigating the incident.
What happened
- Mr Baba Ibeji, a LAWMA operative, was hit by a truck reportedly suffering brake failure while working near Offin Canal.
- The truck lost control, struck the worker, and also crashed into a Toyota Camry.
- LASTMA officers rescued the injured worker from beneath the truck and took him to a nearby hospital, but he was referred to a general hospital due to the severity of his injuries.
- The truck driver escaped, but the truck assistant was apprehended and handed over to the police for investigation.
- Mr Sola Giwa criticized the reckless driving and called for a thorough investigation to ensure possible prosecution.
