NDLEA arrests 46 in Edo and secures seven convictions

The Edo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has arrested 46 suspected drug traffickers and seized 6,439 kilogrammes of narcotics. Mitchell Ofoyeju, the state commander, highlighted major seizures and praised the support of Brigadier General A. O. Balogun. The agency also destroyed a large cannabis farm and impounded a vehicle used for trafficking. Seven convictions were secured, with more cases pending in court.
What happened
- Mitchell Ofoyeju reported that 46 suspects, including 36 males and 10 females, were arrested and 6,439kg of narcotics seized in January.
- A major seizure involved 66 bags of cannabis (792kg) hidden in charcoal, with Shaibu Yusuf arrested while transporting the drugs.
- Military collaboration led to the destruction of a 1.63-hectare cannabis farm in Ebora Camp, yielding over 4,000kg of cannabis.
- Two suspects, Chief James Abamu and Aboy Egah, along with 681kg of cannabis and 181kg of cannabis seeds, were handed over to the NDLEA by the military.
- The NDLEA secured seven convictions, filed seven new cases, and has 105 pending cases at the Federal High Court in Benin.
