
Two Adekunle Ajasin University students drown at hotel pool
Two students from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko have died after drowning in a hotel swimming pool during a party for newly matriculated students. The victims, Oludere Opeyemi and Adegbola Blessing, were attending a pool party when the incident happened. The Ondo State Police Command confirmed the deaths and stated that investigations are ongoing. The bodies have been deposited at the State Hospital, Ikare-Akoko morgue.
What happened
- Oludere Opeyemi, 22, and Adegbola Blessing, 19, drowned during a swimming pool party hosted by a hotel in the university community on Thursday, January 29.
- Blessing was first found unconscious in the pool at about 8:00 p.m., rescued, given first aid, and taken home by friends after regaining consciousness.
- Shortly after, Opeyemi was also found unconscious, rescued, and rushed to the State Hospital, Ikare-Akoko, where he was confirmed dead.
- In the early hours of January 30, Blessing, who had earlier regained consciousness, was also reported dead.
- The police have invited the hotel manager, Ayomide Badejo, and the pool manager for questioning, and the case has been transferred to the command’s Monitoring Unit for further investigation.
