
Two AAUA students die after drowning at hotel pool
Two students from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko have died after drowning in a hotel swimming pool during a party for newly matriculated students. The victims, Oludere Opeyemi and Adegbola Blessing, were found unconscious at different times in the pool. The incident was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh. Police have begun investigations to uncover the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
What we know
- Adegbola Blessing, 19, was first found unconscious at around 8:00 pm on January 29 and was initially revived before being taken home by friends.
- Oludere Opeyemi, 22, was later found unconscious in the pool and was confirmed dead at the State Hospital, Ikare-Akoko.
- In the early hours of 30th January, 2026, Adegbola Blessing was reported to have also passed away.
- The hotel manager, Ayomide Badejo, and the pool manager were questioned by police as part of the investigation.
- The police have transferred the case to the command’s monitoring unit for further investigation, and the remains of the deceased are at the State Hospital morgue for autopsy.
