Rivers police arrest two after busting kidnapping gang
Three suspects were arrested and ransom money recovered after the Rivers State Police Command busted a kidnapping syndicate. Grace Iringe-Koko said the operation demonstrates the Command’s determination to tackle crime and keep residents safe. The police recovered a pump-action gun and over ₦2 million in ransom funds. CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju praised the officers and urged the public to support ongoing efforts.
What happened
- The Rivers State Police Command arrested two suspects linked to the kidnapping of a female victim and three others on January 19, 2026, at Elele Waterside, Etche Local Government Area.
- Police operatives intercepted and arrested the suspects along Ozuzu/Apara Link Road, Etche LGA, on January 22, recovering ₦2,383,000 and a pump-action gun.
- The suspects, Abdullahi Ibrahim and Mohammed Hashim, were found to be involved in multiple kidnappings, including the abduction of two other female victims from Akpoku Community on January 8, 2026.
- During the investigation, a gun battle ensued at the suspects’ hideout, resulting in two suspects being fatally wounded while others escaped.
- CP Olugbenga A. Adepoju commended the bravery of the officers and called on the public to report suspicious gunshot injury treatments to help apprehend remaining gang members.
