
Police arrest burglars and rescue kidnap victims in Niger State
The Niger State Police Command has apprehended two suspected burglars in separate operations and rescued 10 kidnap victims during a joint security effort. Wasiu Abiodun, the command’s Public Relations Officer, detailed the arrests and rescue in a statement. The suspects, Ahmed Jibril and Sani Ndagi, were linked to multiple thefts, with stolen items recovered from their possession. The police also recovered kidnapped victims after engaging the abductors in a gun battle.
What happened
- Ahmed Jibril was arrested by B Division, Suleja, after about 13 residents reported repeated house break-ins and thefts between November 2025 and January 24, 2026.
- Stolen items including household appliances, clothes, and tools were recovered from an uncompleted house in Suleja.
- Sani Ndagi was arrested by A Division, Bida, for stealing generators and air conditioner compressors, all of which were recovered.
- Another suspect, Aliyu Umar, was arrested for allegedly receiving one of the stolen compressors.
- On February 1, 2026, a joint security team rescued 10 kidnap victims in Mariga LGA after a gun battle with suspected kidnappers at Mai-Laka village along the Bangi–Kotonkoro road.
