Nigerian businessman caught with cocaine at Lagos airport
Three suspects were arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for drug trafficking. Uche Franklin Onyekwere, a Brazil-based Nigerian, was apprehended at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport for concealing cocaine in his private parts and footwear. The agency also intercepted large quantities of cannabis and synthetic drugs in Lagos and Niger states. Multiple arrests were made as part of the NDLEA’s ongoing operations against drug trafficking.
What happened
- Uche Franklin Onyekwere was arrested at the airport’s arrival hall for hiding cocaine on his body and in his shoes.
- He was apprehended on Thursday, 29th January 2026, after arriving from Brazil via Johannesburg.
- Three wraps of cocaine weighing 1.60 kilograms were found on him, with additional quantities discovered in his footwear.
- During interrogation, Onyekwere confessed to buying the drugs in Brazil to resell in Nigeria and finance his business and his newborn’s naming ceremony.
- Other NDLEA operations last week led to the seizure of cannabis and synthetic drugs, with suspects including Andy Chidogu, Kenneth Ogene, and Sadiq Olanrewaju arrested on Tuesday, 26th January.
