Police seize large cache of live cartridges in Akwa Ibom

What happened
- Police recovered 415 live cartridges from a commercial bus with registration number ARR 600 ZY during a stop-and-search on January 23, 2026, along the Calabar–Itu Highway.
- The driver, identified as Ikenna, claimed the ammunition was a waybill consignment for an unknown recipient in Calabar.
- A commuter named Excel and another passenger, Bright, who claimed to be an ICPC official, were arrested for obstructing and assaulting police officers.
- Further investigation led to the arrest of Ndubisi Raphael, a 36-year-old from Nyaje village in Akamkpa LGA of Cross River State.
- The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azae, has ordered a thorough investigation and warned the public against obstructing police duties.
