
Fire damages shops and restaurants in Gombe business area
A fire outbreak destroyed several shops, roadside containers, and restaurants at New Mile 3 along the Gombe–Yola Road in Gombe State. The incident led to the loss of goods and properties worth millions of naira, but no casualties or injuries were reported. Yusuf Danbayo, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security Matters and Intergovernmental Affairs, praised the swift response of security and emergency agencies. Community leaders and stakeholders also played a significant role in managing the situation and ensuring public safety.
What happened
- The fire broke out in the early hours and quickly spread across the commercial area, destroying over 80 per cent of affected businesses.
- Yusuf Danbayo confirmed that no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded despite the scale of destruction.
- Security agencies, including the DPO Tumfure Division, Pantami Division, and Operation Hattara, were commended for maintaining order and preventing further escalation.
- Firefighting teams from the Federal Fire Service, Gombe State University Fire Service, and the Union of Tank Truck Water Sellers worked together to stop the fire from spreading to nearby fuel stations.
- Community leaders, led by Alhaji Auwal Abdulkadir, and other stakeholders helped manage the emergency and ensured the safety of the surrounding area.
