Police detain nine over kidnapping, cultism, and robbery in Edo

The police recovered weapons and other items from the suspects, who reportedly confessed to being part of a cult group. - The police arrested Emmanuel Omorodion, 41, in the early hours of Saturday, January 25, 2026, after gunshots were reported at Erediuwawa Street, Benin City.
- A raid at Ibojije Hotel, Eyaen, led to the arrest of alleged kingpin Usifo Omojale and five others, who confessed to being members of the Aye confraternity cult.
- In another operation on Thursday, January 23, 2026, at about 2:40 a.m., Gondas Innocent was arrested following an armed robbery at Uwadia Street.
- Items recovered from the suspects included a double-barrel gun, live cartridge, machetes, a laptop, an iPhone, and clothing.
- The police say investigations are ongoing and all suspects will be prosecuted according to the law.
