
Housewife arrested in Oyo for alleged trafficking of teenage girl
A 28-year-old housewife has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Oyo State for alleged human trafficking. According to spokesman Samuel Opebiyi, the suspect and her husband allegedly trafficked a 17-year-old girl for prostitution. The arrest followed a report by the victim’s sister to the NSCDC Anti-Human Trafficking Unit. Augustine Padonu, the state NSCDC Commandant, urged the public to report suspicious activities related to human trafficking.
What happened
- The housewife was arrested on January 22 after the victim’s sister reported the case on Jan. 20.
- Preliminary investigation revealed the offence occurred on Nov. 25, 2025, when the victim was trafficked to Libya for prostitution.
- The victim was allegedly lured with false promises and introduced to the suspects by Rodiat, an apprentice at the suspect’s shop.
- The suspect’s husband, who is believed to be an accomplice, is currently on the run.
- Augustine Padonu reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to fighting human trafficking and rescuing victims.
