Police arrest four over drugs and recover N1.8m in Enugu
Four suspected drug peddlers have been arrested by the Enugu State Police Command in separate operations targeting drug trafficking in the metropolis. The arrests led to the recovery of large amounts of substances suspected to be cannabis and hard drugs, as well as N1.8 million in cash and other items. Daniel Ndukwe, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrests and ongoing investigations. The Commissioner of Police, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reiterated the command’s commitment to fighting drug abuse and related crimes in the state.
What happened
- The Special Weapons and Tactics Team arrested Omeru Nkechi, a 46-year-old female suspect, at a hideout behind New Market, Enugu.
- Recovered items included a large bag of suspected Indian hemp, electric wires, a water-pumping machine, a POS machine, ATM cards, and N1.8 million in cash.
- In a related operation on January 25, 2026, the Anti-Cultism Squad arrested Anielozie Emmanuel (21), Ekoh Miracle (20), and Nwachukwu Michael (27), suspected to be a cult member.
- Items seized from the trio included containers and sachets of suspected cannabis and wrapped pills suspected to be hard drugs.
- The police are continuing investigations to identify and apprehend other members of the drug-peddling network.
