Police arrest four in Enugu drug raids, seize cash and evidence
Four suspected drug peddlers have been arrested by the Enugu State Police Command in separate operations targeting drug trafficking in the metropolis. The operations, led by the Special Weapons and Tactics Team and the Anti-Cultism Squad, resulted in the recovery of large quantities of suspected cannabis, hard drugs, and ₦1.8 million in cash. Daniel Ndukwe, the Command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrests and noted ongoing efforts to dismantle drug networks. The Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to fighting drug abuse and related crimes.
What happened
- On January 26, 2026, the SWAT Team raided a hideout behind New Market, Enugu, arresting Omeru Nkechi and recovering drugs, wires, a POS machine, ATM cards, and ₦1.8 million.
- On January 25, 2026, the Anti-Cultism Squad arrested three male suspects—Anielozie Emmanuel, Ekoh Miracle, and Nwachukwu Michael—during patrols in Obeagu, Asata, and the Holy Ghost Railway Area.
- Items seized from the suspects included containers and sachets of suspected cannabis, wrapped pills, and other incriminating exhibits.
- Nwachukwu Michael is suspected to be a member of the Vikings Confraternity.
- Police investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the drug-peddling networks.
