
Police arrest 15 suspects for kidnapping and other crimes in Niger
Police in Niger State have arrested 15 people, including a dismissed policeman, for alleged involvement in kidnapping, extortion, thuggery, and illegal possession of drugs. The arrests were made in various parts of the state after several complaints and intelligence reports. According to the police, some suspects confessed to selling illicit drugs, while others were linked to kidnapping and armed robbery. Wasiu Abiodun, the command’s Public Relations Officer, provided details on the arrests and ongoing investigations.
What happened
- Haruna Haggai, a dismissed policeman, was arrested for impersonating an officer and extorting N150,000 and a motorcycle from a victim in Minna.
- The police said Haggai had previously been arrested in October 2025 for a similar offence and was released after an out-of-court settlement.
- Between January 19 and 22, ten suspects were arrested in Sarkin-Pawa for illegal possession of drugs, including tramadol and suspected cannabis.
- Two suspects, Danjuma Jagaba and Alka Samari, were arrested for criminal intimidation and causing grievous harm.
- Usman Aliyu was arrested in Suleja with weapons and illicit drugs, while three others were arrested for kidnapping and armed robbery, with confessions linking them to planned abductions and previous crimes.
