Kwara community mourns late Chief Imam of Ilorin
The Ilorin Emirate is in mourning following the passing of its Chief Imam, Sheikh Dr Mohammed Bashir Solihu. Massive crowds gathered at the Emir’s palace to pay their last respects to the revered religious leader. Sheikh Solihu was celebrated for his wisdom, commitment to interfaith harmony, and decades of service. His burial drew prominent figures, reflecting the deep impact he had on the community.
What happened
- Sheikh Dr Mohammed Bashir Solihu passed away at the age of 75.
- He served as the 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin for over forty years, having been appointed in 1983.
- The Janazah prayer at the Emir’s palace was attended by dignitaries including the Emir of Ilorin, Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, and former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
- The Emir described him as a man of honour and piety, and called his death a monumental loss.
- Sheikh Solihu was born in 1950, started his Quranic education at Magaji Baboko Quranic School, and received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Belaze University, UK, in 2013.
