Army stops attacks by terrorists in Adamawa and Borno
Troops from Operation HADIN KAI successfully repelled coordinated terrorist attacks in Adamawa and Borno states. What happened
- In the early hours of 16 January 2026, terrorists tried to overrun a patrol base at Sabon Gari in Madagali, Adamawa State, but were repelled by alert troops and reinforcements.
- Later on 16 January 2026, a large-scale attack targeted Forward Operating Base Azir in Borno State, but was met with overwhelming firepower from troops and aerial support.
- The firefight caused damage to troop vehicles and the CCTV control room, but the soldiers maintained control of the base.
- Several weapons and ammunition, including a 60mm mortar tube and hundreds of rounds, were recovered from the attackers.
- Persistent intelligence and aerial surveillance enabled follow-up operations that neutralised additional militants and weakened the terrorist group’s capacity.
