
Police rescue kidnapped man in Anambra during patrol
SP Tochukwu Ikenga of the Anambra State Police Command announced the rescue of a South African-based man who was kidnapped in Anambra. The victim, originally from Obinagu–Isikweachi, Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, was abducted by armed men. He managed to escape from his captors, leading to his rescue by joint security operatives. The police are continuing efforts to apprehend those responsible.
What happened
- The victim, a South African-based Nigerian, was abducted on January 1, 2026, in the evening from his hometown by six masked armed men.
- Police-led joint security operatives rescued him during a routine patrol in the early hours of January 15, 2026, around the Isulo axis of Orumba South Local Government Area.
- The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of ₦40 million from the victim’s wife and relatives.
- After escaping from the kidnappers’ den, the victim was debriefed and reunited with his family.
- The police are using intelligence from the victim to locate the criminal hideout and arrest those involved.
