Lagos task force arrests 281 street urchins for alleged harassment
The Lagos State task force has arrested 281 suspected street urchins, known as Omotaku, during a renewed enforcement operation across major roads and highways. The agency spokesperson, Raheem Gbadeyan, announced the arrests in a statement. The operation is part of an ongoing clean-up exercise to rid Lagos of criminal elements who harass motorists, especially when vehicles develop faults. CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the task force, said the aim is to ensure a safe and secure environment for residents.

- The Lagos State task force arrested 281 suspected Omotaku during enforcement operations.
- The arrests were made between last Thursday and Wednesday, January 14, 2026, during a week-long raid.
- Areas covered included Ikoyi, Lekki Phase 1, Lekki–Ajah Expressway, Victoria Island, Costain, and several others.
- All suspects have since been arraigned in court.
