
Power restored in Taraba after major transmission line upgrade
Electricity supply has returned to Taraba State after an upgrade to a key transmission line. The Transmission Company of Nigeria announced that full power was restored following extensive works and testing. The Yola Electricity Distribution Company is expected to benefit from the improvements. Residents experienced an outage while the upgrades were completed.
What we know
- Full power restoration in Taraba State was achieved at 7:00 pm on 13 January 2026, after all pre-commissioning tests and the mandatory soak period.
- The planned outage began at 2:16 pm on 9 January to allow critical upgrade works on the Yola–Mayo Belwa–Jalingo transmission line.
- The Gombe–Yola transmission line was temporarily opened on 11 January to facilitate extension and transfer works.
- The upgrades included energising newly installed 150MVA power transformers at the Jalingo and Mayo Belwa Transmission Substations.
- TCN thanked consumers for their patience and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening the national transmission grid.
