NDLEA uncovers drugs hidden in mannequins and arrests suspects
Three major drug-related arrests have been made by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. Ani Romans was caught transporting tramadol concealed in mannequins, while Jeremiah Isaiah Nkanta, an 80-year-old ex-convict, was rearrested with cannabis. Several other suspects were apprehended in Oyo and other states. The NDLEA continues to intensify its operations against drug trafficking.
What happened
- Ani Romans, a 37-year-old businessman, was intercepted by NDLEA officers along Oron–Ibaka Road in Akwa Ibom State on Friday, January 9 with mannequins stuffed with 5.3 kilograms of tramadol.
- Jeremiah Isaiah Nkanta was rearrested in Mmanta-Abak village, Abak Local Government Area, on Saturday, January 10, with 5.7 kilograms of skunk.
- Nkanta had previously been convicted and sentenced to two years in prison in 2022 for drug trafficking.
- In Oyo State, NDLEA operatives arrested suspects including Remi Bamidele and recovered various types of cannabis and cash, with arrests made on Friday, 9th January and Saturday, 10th January.
- Other arrests and drug seizures were also reported in Edo, Niger, Taraba, and Adamawa states.
