NDLEA arrests suspects and seizes drugs hidden in mannequins
A 37-year-old businessman, Ani Romans, was arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for transporting tramadol pills hidden inside mannequins. NDLEA operatives intercepted him along Oron–Ibaka Road in Akwa Ibom State while he was reportedly heading to Cameroon. The agency also rearrested an 80-year-old ex-convict, Jeremiah Isaiah Nkanta, with cannabis, and made further arrests in Oyo and other states. Several types of illicit drugs and cash were recovered during these operations.
What happened
- Ani Romans was caught with mannequins stuffed with 5.3kg of tramadol while travelling to Cameroon on Friday, January 9.
- NDLEA rearrested Jeremiah Isaiah Nkanta in Mmanta-Abak Village, Abak LGA, with 5.7kg of skunk on Saturday, January 10.
- Nkanta had previously been convicted and sentenced in 2022 for drug trafficking.
- In Oyo State, Remi Bamidele and others were apprehended with various cannabis strains and vehicles, with arrests made on Friday, January 9 and Saturday, January 10.
- Additional arrests and drug seizures occurred in Edo, Niger, Taraba, and Adamawa states.
