Customers doubt N10bn refund claims for failed airtime and data
Nigerian banks and telecom operators claim to have refunded over N10bn to customers for failed airtime and data purchases, according to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC). Despite these claims, many customers remain sceptical about the transparency and verification of the refunds. Uju Ogubunka, President of the Bank Customers Association of Nigeria, highlighted ongoing complaints from users who have not received their refunds. The NCC and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) are working on a new framework to address these persistent issues.
TLDR
- The NCC says banks and mobile network operators have refunded over N10bn to customers for failed transactions.
- Many customers question the accuracy and proof of these refund claims.
- The new framework by NCC and CBN aims to resolve failed airtime and data transaction complaints more efficiently.
- Under the framework, customers are entitled to a refund within 30 seconds for failed transactions, or up to 24 hours if pending.
- A Central Monitoring Dashboard will be set up for real-time tracking of transaction failures and refunds by both regulators.
