Twelve arrested after violent attack on Rivers estate
At least twelve suspects have been arrested after gunmen attacked an estate in Mbodo, Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State. The police, led by spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko, said members of a vigilante group and hired thugs stormed the estate, shot a resident, and abducted him. The police responded quickly, rescued the victim, and recovered weapons and vehicles. Olugbenga Adepoju, the Commissioner of Police, condemned the actions and assured residents of their safety.
What happened
- The incident occurred on January 5, 2025, when suspected members of the OSPAC vigilante group and hired thugs attacked the estate.
- One resident, Apostle Stephen Nmacha, was shot in the leg and abducted, while other residents sustained injuries and fled for safety.
- Police operatives rescued the abducted victim and arrested twelve suspects, recovering weapons, motorcycles, and vehicles.
- The alleged coordinators, Patrick Akandu and Omakwelem Onu Ihunwo Prince, as well as the OSPAC commander known as Azubuike (a.k.a. Ocean), are currently at large.
- The police urged the public to provide information on the fleeing suspects and reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and security in the state.
