Police arrest 12 after violent attack on Rivers estate
Twelve suspects have been arrested by the Rivers State Police Command following a violent attack on Unity Estate in Mbodo, Aluu. The attackers, including members of the OSPAC vigilante group and hired thugs, invaded the estate, fired shots, and abducted a resident. Apostle Stephen Nmacha sustained a gunshot injury and was taken to a medical facility after being rescued. The police recovered weapons and vehicles from the suspects, while some key suspects remain at large.
What happened
- The attack occurred on January 5, 2025, when armed assailants invaded Unity Estate, Mbodo–Aluu, causing panic and destruction.
- Patrick Akandu and Omakwelem Onu Ihunwo Prince are alleged to have coordinated the attack and are currently at large.
- Apostle Stephen Nmacha was shot in the leg and abducted but was later rescued by police operatives.
- The police arrested twelve suspects and recovered items including an automatic pump-action gun, live cartridges, charms, motorcycles, and vehicles.
- The Akpor OSPAC Commander, Azubuike (a.k.a. Ocean), who allegedly led the attack, is also at large, and efforts are ongoing to apprehend all fleeing suspects.
