
Army investigates soldier after teen’s shooting in Akwa Ibom
A 13-year-old boy, Timothy Daniel, was allegedly shot dead by a soldier in Ikot Abasi, Akwa Ibom State, causing outrage among local residents. The incident reportedly happened after the soldier made sexual advances toward Timothy’s 15-year-old sister, Miracle Daniel. The Nigerian Army has confirmed that the case is under investigation. What happened
- Timothy Daniel was allegedly shot by a soldier attached to Sterling Petrochemical and Fertiliser Limited.
- The incident occurred at about 12:05 a.m. on January 1, 2026, as Timothy and Miracle Daniel were returning from Mount Zion Full Gospel Church.
- The soldier allegedly made advances toward Miracle Daniel and, after being confronted, shot Timothy in the head.
- The crisis also resulted in damage to a BMW belonging to Obong Uyai Udoiwod, a former adviser to the Ikot Abasi Chairman on Political Matters.
- Captain Lawal Mohamed confirmed that the military police are investigating the incident.
