NDLEA arrests grandmother and intercepts drugs hidden in coffee sachets
A 65-year-old grandmother, Fatima Ilori, has been arrested by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for alleged involvement in drug trafficking. The agency also intercepted various illicit substances, including cocaine, ketamine, ecstasy, and tramadol, hidden in coffee sachets and a book parcel destined for Zambia and the United Kingdom. Several other suspects, including 22 Indian crew members of a merchant vessel, were detained in connection with large drug seizures. The NDLEA continues its efforts to disrupt drug supply chains and raise awareness across Nigeria.
What happened
- Fatima Ilori, also known as Mama Kerosine, was arrested in Ibadan along with another female suspect after 238.4kg of skunk was linked to her.
- NDLEA operatives seized ketamine, ecstasy, and tramadol pills concealed in coffee mix sachets and a book parcel at a Lagos courier company on December 24 and December 29.
- 31.5kg of cocaine was seized at Apapa Port, Lagos, with 22 Indian crew members of MV Aruna Hulya taken into custody.
- In Borno State, two drug suppliers were arrested, and large consignments of tramadol and skunk were seized.
- Additional arrests and drug recoveries were made in Lagos, Jigawa, and Kwara States, with ongoing sensitisation activities in schools and communities.
